Senate Approves 5 INEC Commissioners Ahead Of 2027 Polls – Independent Newspaper Nigeria


The Nigerian Senate has ratified the selection of five individuals to serve as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following their nomination by President Bola Tinubu in March.

The confirmed appointees include Umar Yusuf Garba, Sa’ad Umar Idris, Chukwuemeka Obeziako, Umar Mukhtar, and Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem.

This approval comes after a thorough screening by the legislative chamber and is seen as a vital move to enhance the electoral body’s readiness for upcoming national elections.

“Carry out your duties without fear or favour in line with the mandate of the electoral commission,” the Senate encouraged the commissioners

The newly confirmed RECs are expected to play significant roles in the preparations leading up to the 2027 general elections.
